DESIGN NAME: Saphir, the Homage to Bucciali

INSPIRATION: Saphir is inspired by the history of -Bucciali- a disappeared French car builder that closed in 1932.
Its founders were Paul Albert and Angelo Bucciali, sons of the organist Joseph Bucciali. Their cars were very innovative and P.A. Bucciali was fixing and building organs for his father.
Nowaday, electric cars are growing on our roads and they have to make sound for security. With the innovative spirit of Bucciali and their musical past, they would have worked on an unusual solution.
Saphir is the Homage to Bucciali.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This car is a poetic vision of what could be the sound of an electric car.
It works like a wind instrument, more precisely an organ pipe except that you need to drive it to supply in air the car.
Each road, each street becomes a very unique track where to play and have a non usual experiment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The car is very simple to handle.
To drive it is enough to obtain a completely new experience of driving thanks to the sounds it produces.
To turn, to accelerate, to brake, each action on the car produces a sound which is always different thanks to the speed variations.
The sound can also be turned off you want to simply enjoy the peace of the landscape.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Paris in May 2014 from a white sheet of paper and the desire to create something big that doesn't exist.
The creation of the one scaled model started in august 2015 in Reims and is actually improved before to start the work on a real prototype.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Researches have started by speaking about what to do and how, for who, define a strong concept.. To make a very unique car needed a very unique brand so the idea to choose a disappeared one came quickely.
Bucciali was the perfect one, incredible history, a few models produced, thousands of opportunities, only one officialy sold, everything was there, the potential was very high and moreover, the past of the Bucciali family in the music field, especially the playing and building of organs was the basis of a strong concept.
The design has started with pens and grey matter to continue with styling clay and shaping tools.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part is not really the build of the car but the financial part of the project. Research a client or financials is currently the biggest challenge.
