| DESIGN NAME: Harmony Nature House PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential INSPIRATION: The project is a house with swimming pool and garden. The owner of the house and his wife are friendly musicians and photographers, and we have known each other for many years. As my good friend is a tall foreign father, so we decided to emphasis few elements on my design to match the preferences of the westerners, such as environmental-friend UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Creating a warm, harmonious and nature home, apart from using the traditional materials, we specially selected old solid wood from thailand and canada as the main material. Moreover, the owner has high requirements on the quality, therefore, we chose the highest quality traditional materials instead of the grand and luxurious new materials. For the quality control, we sought a better traditional craft master to handle these materials to make it perfect. Hence, the difficulty was relatively high. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The highlight of the design was the leisurely life of the family for gatherings. To match their characters, we made a DJ booth and the wine cellar for them to play music, share nice wines and art pieces and chill out with their friends. As we made good use of the space so that we could build two steam rooms for owners to relax with their friends. All this satisfaction and happiness, all thanks to the superior quality engineering team to create a multifunction and lovely home. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is a 4-storey detached dwelling house located in Hong Kong. The project commenced in October 2008 and was completed in November 2010. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: As to achieve environmental protection and nature conservation requirements, we made good use of a large amount of environmental-friend SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Total area including outdoor space: 995 square meters. The height of the ceiling ranges from 2.5 meters to 5.5 meters high. TAGS: Residential House, Nature, Harmony, Eco Friendly, Joint Deco, David Lok, Renee Cheung, Interior Design, Awards RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We also reconstructed the swimming pool with an outdoor jacuzzi, then the parents can be relaxed and enjoy massage while their children also have fun in the swimming pool. Besides, we made the gym room next to the audio and game room with transparent material, so they are closely connected when parents are working out in gym room and children are playing in the game room. All of their wants can be fulfilled in the same space to create a harmonious atmosphere. CHALLENGE: Due to there are plenty of solid wood used in the house, such as 6 meters long half meter thick solid old wood is installed and suspended on outdoor entrance facade, 3 tons solid wood stand located at indoor entrance and 5 inches thick solid woods as stair tread suspended on 4-storey staircase. Sourcing similar old wood, doing reinforcement on those woods and enhance structure so as to ensure its safety would be our highest priority. Although the work is challenging, we completed this high quality project successfully. NAME: Joint Deco PROFILE: Joint Deco, established by David Lok in 1988, is an interior designing company which specialization is commercial organizations such as hair salons, fashions retailers, bars and restaurants. In order to satisfy the various needs of our clients from a variety of fields, we are willing to work with designers and other specialties. We determine to complete every assignment with a perfect team which consists of the most talented and experienced people in the industry. In fact, our "working-with-most-appropriate-partners" theory proves to be successful. We need to understand our clients' needs thoroughly before we can decide the team-in-charge for the particular project among the members of Joint Deco, who each has his own strength. This is the first and important step to our "working-with-most-appropriate-partners" theory. The team will then starts brainstorming and come up with a thematic design - a design that satisfies the needs and budgets of our clients. Our work and progress does not stop here. As the construction starts, we follow through the progress many times and our designers even work on sites. Also we will go visit our clients' shops every now and then to see if there is any room of improvement. |
