| DESIGN NAME: Brewo PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pour Over Coffee Brewer INSPIRATION: This project was inspired from the water drops. Filling the cup with the droplets of filtered coffee used in pour over coffee brewing method is the main reason for the emergence of this idea. This idea emerged with aesthetic concerns made application of a second filtering physically possible. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Brewo is a pour over coffee brever, suitable for home and commercial(cafe, restaurants..etc) use. Unlike traditional coffee brewer, it has a minimalist and modern design that provides integrity in itself. All the materials that used in this product were selected based on easy cleaning and hygiene rules. All porcelain and glass parts are suitable for dishwasher. All parts are designed to be nested in the package to provide an advantage in terms of logistics and storage. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: How it works: Unlike the traditional coffee brewer, the dripper drains coffee from the filter paper, flowing coffee, under the pot, at the same time the water filled into the pool that shaped as a water drops, which is the inspiration for this product. Here, the sediment, which can pass through the filter paper, clings to the bottom. The non-sediment liquid coffee overflows and spills out through the holes in the side surface of the water drop shaped distiller, flowing through the outer surface of the distiller, dropwise into the coffee cup. It has filtered twice so it provide a pure and smooth coffee experience. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in March 2016 in Istanbul and finished in January 2017, its ready for mass production. Istanbul. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Dripper and distiller parts are produced by porcelain, slip casting method. The part used as carrier and Heat shield /cup holding area is produced from extra clear glass by blow molding method and then cutting and polishing processes are applied. The wooden parts such as the bumper between the distiller and the carrier and the base under the carrier are produced by wood lathe method. For this reason, there was an idea about the materials and sizes to be used. The parameters, such as production cost and sales price, giving the final shape. CHALLENGE: It is planned to be produce only from porcelain and glass materials on initial design phase. At this point, the water-droplet distiller was aimed to create the effect of hanging in the air when viewed from the front. In case of the based on the usage scenario, direct contact between two fragile material , it will reduce the product and user safety in accidents that may occur during use, added some pieces of the wood such as a base on the bottom for make the balance, olso added a wooden wheel such as a buffer between of them. NAME: The Glass Furnace PROFILE: The Glass Furnace is an international glass center built in the green fields of Black Sea Region. The Glass Furnace was established by Yılmaz Yalçınkaya to deliver primary goals such as to provide a high standard of education to its students, to form a common meeting group for local and international artists who are interested in glass art, and to contribute to the development of contemporary Turkish glass and fine arts. The Glass Furnace was first designed as a glass studio but has quickly become one of the world’s leading glass schools and this is the outcome of a long and intensive work. Since the day it was founded, The Glass Furnce has been hosting world renowned artists, teaching various glass techniques to Turkish students and students from all over the world, through different duration workshops. Our visitors have the opportunity to observe glass production – the income of which contributes to education expenses – to participate in some of the applications, to see the works by world-renowned artists and to shop at the store where hand-made glass products are sold. The Glass Furnace welcomes artists who wish to form training groups of their own, glass producers who need to rent a studio and individuals or corporations who wish to conduct trainings and meetings in a completely different and beautiful environment. The Glass Furnace, as a non-profit organization, continues to encounter different cultures, experiences and backgrounds and improve the art of glass. |
