| DESIGN NAME: Moon House PRIMARY FUNCTION: Children tent INSPIRATION: Inspired by the grass and starry sky,our team applied natural elements to the tent with the concept of paper folding. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a Moon tent to be built by children together with their parents with the concept of paper folding. Made of Tong wood with felt .the tent is easy to be folded, built, and jointed. The built up tent will have an entertainment space for children, along with which is a hexahedral structure to store their toys. The window is designed with Sun&Moon&Sta OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The tent is assembled by 18 individual pieces which are made from two types of materials: Tung wood and felt. The Tung Wood help to support, and felt help to assembly. To build up the tent you need to assembly the bottom first, and add on the other pieces next,and then finalize the ceiling. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in May 2016 and ended in Zhengzhou on February 2017 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Attaching and cutting technologies are used to manufacture the tent. To be environment friendly, the applications of both of the two main materials are designed to be recyclable. Tung wood,as the main structure is very light and recyclable which goes along with then popular low carbon life style, and the felt as inner decoration touches nice and easy to find replacement. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1600mm*1300mm*1800mm TAGS: Art of Paper folding, Children, Game, Participation RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This design reexamines the relationship between experience and function, focuses on the interaction between children and their parents. Inspired by the grass and starry sky,the designer applied natural elements to the tent with the concept of paper folding.Child and parents can work together to build the moon house.the tent ,made by Tong wood with felt ,is easy to be folded, built, and jointed. The built up tent will have an entertainment space for children, along with which is a hexahedral structure to store their toys. The window is designed with Sun+Moon+Star symbols, which makes it easier to be opened and closed. What’s more, attached by veneer,the surface of the wooden board allows children to draw on it and to decorate it. CHALLENGE: Currently, the design can only be used indoors because the material is not water-proof, therefor if we want to use it outdoors, waterproof material may be needed. NAME: Wu Tong Design team of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry PROFILE: Wu Tong Design team. It is made up of four experienced postgraduates (Qianqian Hu & Heguang Wang & Yilin Liang & Yang Zhang)from Zhengzhou University of Light Industry. Team members are working on academic research and actual product production and manufacturing. Most of them are currently working for worldwide design companies. They gather together in their spare time and work on same project, longing to make the world a better place to live in and explaining what is design good for. |
