| DESIGN NAME: Design is... PRIMARY FUNCTION: Installation exhibition INSPIRATION: The classic Love is figurines, with their emblematic phrases below a naked couple, were the inspiration for us to create the Design is project which started with this exhibition installation during the DW, Design Weekend, the largest urban design festival in Latin America. This Project was a celebration of the fifth anniversary of the festival. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: As the unifying element of the installation, the shape of the cube was chosen since it offers diferente faces, as is the case with Design, in a festival of eight colors to symbolize the infinite possibilities of creation, with the pictures of the authors, portrait style, and the phrases that define each view, unique and insighful, about the Design universe. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Two hundred dangling mobiles endeavor to shift the visitors experience. We spend so much time looking down at our monitors, smartphones; so we wanted to create a moment for us to look up. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This installation exhibition was fulfilled in San Paolo during the Design Weekend and takes three months to organize and the exhibition takes ten days. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A cube shape was chosen for the exhibition because it displays several faces. The material used for the cube were wood painted in eight colors. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The wood cubes are 600mm x 600mm x 600mm TAGS: installation, exhibition, Brazil, Design, Design Weekend, Colorful, cubes, Marcelo Lopes, Merchan Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for this project was related to the production of cubes. They would need to be very light, easy to assemble and disassemble. They would be suspended by steel cables and fastened with nylon thread. The assembly of the two hundred cubes should be done in a very short period of time, so the whole process of assembling the cube and fixing the panels with the photos and phrases of the guests should be done very quickly. CHALLENGE: The creative of this installation exhibition was doing a spacial exhibition using two hundred mobiles endeavor. It is as though we were seeking out every star in a constellation. Each has its own brilliance, but togheter they form a universe to be explored, a great constellation.
