Common practice for glass splashbacks is to apply a solid plain colour to the back of a glass panel which is then fixed to the wall using a silicone adhesive. Creoglass wanted to provide a more luxurious product that gave the impression of a deep textured finish. Through lengthy experimentation a method was found using metallic minerals that creates the impression of a layered textured finish, that glimmers in both artificial and natural lights.

Premium Collection by Creoglass Design brings a luxury metallic finish to glass surfaces. Toughened glass provides a perfect smooth surface that is impact and heat resistant to over 400ºC. Raw metallic minerals are painstakingly prepared into flakes, cleaned and fixed by hand the rear of this toughened glass in carefully created layers to create a seamless glimmering texture.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Glass is becoming the leading choice over traditional kitchen tiling. Toughened glass provides a perfect smooth surface that is impact and heat resistant to over 400 degrees celsius. Panels are fixed to walls and sealed with adhesive silicone. There are no grouting grooves or gaps for bacteria and dirt to build up in. It is easy to clean and non-porous making it an incredibly hygienic surface.
Users get the visual display of a multilayered, glimmering textured surface. However, because the minerals remain behind the layer of glass, the feel of the surface is completely smooth.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Premium Collection was first created in 2014. Since then a large number of projects have been undertaken within the UK. Premium Collection projects typically take around 4 weeks from initial measuring of the site location to final installation.

Through extensive experimentation, the best method for applying and layering the metallic minerals was found. What initially began as an artistic trail, became a well refined manufacturing method. All results from every step were continuously scrutinised to perfect the final finish.
By carefully preparing and applying the raw mineral materials by hand the layering structure gave the perception of a deep texturing on the back of toughened glass panels.

Panels are bespoke made to every project. Panels can be a maximum length of around 4m.

Primary research came from experimentation of different materials and methods of applying compounds to toughened glass panels. The aim was to perfect the layering of raw mineral materials to give the desired depth and texturing. Each version created was carefully examined to determine changes to the process. Each stage of preparing the raw materials and applying the layers to the glass was then repeated under different conditions. This hand-made process was then slowly adapted to decrease the time required to produce the best looking texture.
The greatest challenge was perfecting the hand layering of the texture. Raw mineral materials are prepared and cleaned into individual flakes before carefully fixed to the glass to create the final layering. This painstaking work had to be completed in the right environmental conditions to ensure the layering of the materials creates a consistent and deep textured effect.
