In dismantling and reforming buildings, the discarded building waste are always piled up or buried, which occupies the continuously tense land resources in urban building and results in conspicuous environmental problems, meanwhile increasing producing cost of building products. This product design is inspired by how to increase use value of build waste through new methods.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
According to ecological design philosophy, Tree pool seat of recycled concrete improves the using value of building waste through utilizing and modeling it. U-pattern as basic element of tree pool seat, two of them are combined together in a circle by using metal joints, which realizes double functions for both sitting and protecting trees.Curve pattern enriches texture of urban public furniture and solves visual coldness and poignancy of concrete furniture.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
U-pattern as basic element of tree pool seat, two of them are combined together in a circle by using metal joints.For crowds having rests and collective activities in different public environments, and various exhibitions of products, different ways of combination could promote the communication among various crowds.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in April 2016 in Chengdu and finished in January 2017 in Chengdu, and was exhibited in the College of Architecture Southwest Jiaotong university, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China in January 2017
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The waste concretes of dismantled buildings are grinded into pierces of certain size. The pierces to certain proportion will be aggregate of concrete and form into models after rolling over and pouring. Process of producing is simple and of low cost.

China’s building waste at current stage is around 3.5 billion tons, while comprehensive use ratio of which could not reach 5%. There is a great blind spot for recycle of building waste, which is also the area with highest waste ratio and lowest reuse ratio, leading to remarkable environmental problems and threatening urban development. Enormous social benefits could be produced through reusing waste concrete.
Taking recycled concrete as basic materials for making outdoor public infrastructure, series of experiments are performed in combination with particular use functions and environmental demands, which includes environmental protection property and tectonic strength of materials, quality and color of the surface, variety and convenience of installing combination and convenient transportation. Reusing of building waste would be realized through the series of designs for outdoor public infrastructures, which promotes the mass production and product modeling of the series of products that are well adapted to the environment.
