| DESIGN NAME: Mirror Jewellery- Beauty Extension PRIMARY FUNCTION: Stone extension INSPIRATION: Mirrors are widely used in Interior Design and home decorations to add light, depth and create spaces by reflecting and accentuating hues and views from neighboring objects. It inspired me on the jewelry design. Surrounding with mirrors, the stones are enchanted, and their beauty is amplified. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is presenting a novel styled series of jewelry, including necklace and earring. The jewelry is composed of center stones and surrounding hand-fan-shaped mirrors. With the mirror, the stones are duplicated, light is reflected and the neighboring spaces are infinitely extended. The color and light extension make the whole jewelry a magical and striking effect. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Stones reflected by mirrors. Visual illusion on jewelry. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2017 and finished in February 2017 in Hong Kong |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The hand-fan-shaped parts are made of brass and plated with mirror finish without lead or nickel. The round shaped green zircon stones are set in the center of the fan-shaped body. They are fixed on a piece of brass setting, and connected with a leather belt. Green agate-beaded tassels are hung to the setting. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The main part of the necklace is 20 cm. The length of the leather belt is 35 cm. The lengths of two earrings are 12 cm and 7 cm. TAGS: mirror jewelry, jewelry, hand fan RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research was about "how to use less precious stones to maximize beauty." I have tried many materials to test the effect of the jewelry, like glasses, ceramics and steels. Bending transparent glasses can reflect the stones image radially but not very clearly. Faceted ceramic is too thick and heavy to make jewelry, and not easy to produce. The faceted steels can reflect well, but the style dose not suit for women. Faceted mirrors are too sharp and hard to be produced. At last, I choose brass plated with mirror finish to achieve the effect. The second research was "which shape can make the best reflection effect." I used irregular rock-shaped, tree-ring-shaped, star-shaped, and finally chose hand-fan-shaped, which can reflect the stones in each piece of the mirror and radially beautiful likes flowers. CHALLENGE: The shape selection of the main jewelry is the most difficult part. Different shaped mirror combination has been tested, most of which could not effectively reflect the stone.
