DESIGN NAME: CA200 Telemedicine Tablet
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Telemedicine End Point
INSPIRATION: Healthcare providers struggle to meet the demands of the quadruple aim - delivering effective care - improving population health - lowering costs - ensuring clinician satisfaction. Add to that budgetary and implementation challenges, creating a telemedicine program often seems impossible. The Avizia CA200 breaks down these barriers by empowering hospitals, clinics and other care centers with a turnkey solution to rapidly expand the reach of clinical services to any patient care location.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Avizia designed this one of a kind device to enabled turnkey telemedicine. The tablet-based video end-point features a touch screen interface to streamline patient intake, start a video consultation, and share diagnostic data - all from a single device. The cradle offers a handle and stand for mobility, an integrated speaker for high quality audio, and a built-in battery for extended use. An optional cart enables bedside use and features a lockable drawer with integrated peripheral inputs.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Everything needed for a telemedicine visit is built into the CA200. Once connected the internet, use the touch-screen to request care and instantly connect with a doctor by video.
Example: When a psychiatric patient arrives in crisis at a hospital there may not be a mental health specialist available. The patient must be admitted to wait, transferred to another location, or discharged without care. With the CA200, the patient can instantly see a mental health specialist to get high-quality care.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in 2015 and was completed in 2017 at Avizia's headquarters in Reston, Virginia. The project was exhibited for the first time at the HIMSS17 Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida in February 2017.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The CA200 was designed by a team of engineers with decades of experience and a diverse background in video conference, FDA testing and electronics. To maximize the CA200's usability in a medical setting, Avizia consulted actual doctors and hospital staff who would be using the cart daily. Throughout the design phase, Avizia partnered with specialists in electronic design, assembly and testing to ensure the device met the highest standards for medical use.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Avizia included hospital executives, clinicians (doctors and nurses) and IT staff throughout the design and testing process. Each group shared in determining the feature and design requirements to create a truly turn-key telemedicine solution. This was critical to creating the final product. From the angle and volume level of the speaker, to the microphone's sensitivity, Avizia collected and applied valuable data to design a valuable and functional solution that improves the delivery of care.
CHALLENGE: Industrial design with a consumer aesthetic (high-quality materials with an approachable look), Medical grade for use in hospitals (patient safe), FDA Class 1 registration, Tested to international standards (power and network), Easy to Deploy (setup wizard), Easy to Use (app interface)
