| DESIGN NAME: TC51 and TC56 Series PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rugged Handheld Computer INSPIRATION: A device was needed that could address the functional needs for retail, transport and logistics, field service, warehouse and healthcare whilst being adaptable to fully address market specific use cases. An elegant design was needed that could be used for customer interactions, whilst a rugged solution was required to withstand the day to day use or enterprise. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The rugged device has a 5” touch display and an elegant design for customer facing use cases. An exoskeleton allows accessories to attach to the device whilst further increasing the drop protection making the device ideal for field mobility and transport and logistics. The trigger handle adds extra productivity for scan-intensive use cases. Active Edge™ allows easy access to features such as the camera or 1d/2d barcode scanner. The touchscreen works with gloved hands, stylus, and in the wet. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2015 and was launched in November 2016. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: - SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 75.5 mm x 18.6 mm x 155 mm TAGS: rugged, mobile, device, scanner, enterprise, touchscreen, healthcare, retail, barcode, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: The most difficult challenge was creating a device that addressed all the common design requirements for the different markets, whilst allowing the flexibility to be tailored to meet the conflicting requirements. This design challenge was overcome by making the device as elegant as possible, and shifting the accessory attachment and extra ruggedness requirements to the exoskeleton.
