| DESIGN NAME: Retrofit Melhoramentos Company PRIMARY FUNCTION: Melhoramentos Company Headquarters INSPIRATION: One of the most traditional companies – with 130 years of History can be considered one of the icons of our "industrial revolution". The centennial building, listed by the patrimony, in 1932 during the Constitutionalist revolution was where the first paper money was printed in Brazil. Creating an intrinsic relationship with the neighborhood and the city. The retrofit project proposed by Studio Guilherme Torres, aims to reposition these values of a corporate culture and Community to society. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Organized around the current central atrium the project aims to reconfigure the entire building respecting it’s structural grid. A rational the study of its structural systems, four hydraulic cores were created to attend all floors. On the ground floor, curved walls and soft ramps protect the interior from the street, creating a smooth transition to a large area open atrium.
