DESIGN NAME: Buddy App
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mobile App
INSPIRATION: We all have the will to expand our social circles, but the biggest challenge is how we can find the right people without wasting our time on the endless social media feeds. The project is inspired by the finding that nowadays people still prefer to establish closer personal offline connections even they might first "meet" those new friends online.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Buddy is an app that can allow users to meet their colleagues whom they might not know during daily work. Compared to the existing community apps, Buddy is starting from the workplaces. Additionally, Buddy focuses on "light and effortless" social networking. It firstly finds people who share similar backgrounds and interests with users, then deepens their connections during the short breaks in weekdays, like lunch or afternoon coffee time.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When activating this app, users can import their friends/connections from Facebook or LinkedIn.
Users need to set up the conversation subjects they are willing to talk about, like technology, design, fashion, etc. Additionally, the app will suggest trending topics as icebreakers based on the subjects users have picked.
After the meeting, users can post the photos to their friendship timeline. The app will also remind users to keep in touch with their "key" connections if they have not communicated for a while.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project's design part started in 2015 and it took three months to launch the app's beta version.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design process started from user research and competitive analysis, then built the user flows and prototypes.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Design for both iOS and Android.
TAGS: App, Meeting, Social, Mobile
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project gathered real user data from interviews, surveys and prototype testing. The app's three personas are created based on users’ daily routines and their needs.
CHALLENGE: The hardest challenge of this project is to create a smooth online-offline transition during the meeting process. The process starts from the app: users set up the meeting type then the app matches them a person and location. Later they will meet the person offline, while they can provide feedbacks about the meeting in the app to improve future matches.
