DESIGN NAME: Vanke Headquarters
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Vip Conference Centre
INSPIRATION: Our project starts with the idea of ‘box inside a box’ given the industrial envelope of Steven Holl building. Each function of the program has become an object itself. We use warm wood to create a contrast with the concrete and metal envelope.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This centre is a good example on how the environment protection and energy saving are blended into architecture.
A number of skylights were designed in the 6F of the building so we used them as a design motive. To bring sunlight to the interior spaces means bring nature. The project showed Vanke’s honest and humble gesture on building the bridge between nature livings and urban life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The vip reception room is designed following the idea of dry garden were ground relieves and vertical lines create shadows and soft movements through the space. The conference room is set as half circle table to be able to gather and have video meetings facing not only a screen but also each other.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2015 and finished in June 2016 in Shenzhen, China.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The wood material has acoustic and thermal insulating qualities. We choose dark gray carpet for the floor to help the isolation conditions and also to bring a softer and warmer texture to the space.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 375 square meters in total. The vip conference centre contains one vip reception room and one conference room which are located on the 6th floor of the building.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The experimental architectural design concept “the floating horizon skyscraper” by Steven Holl has become a real sustainable landmark landscape standing high in the city after ten years of growth and refinement. The project has showed our exploration on the relationships between man and man, man and nature, man and society.
CHALLENGE: It is very important how the environment protection and energy-saving are blended into the space. A number of skylights were designed in the 6F of the building so we used them as a design motive. We have brought sunlight to the interior spaces which means bring nature.
