DESIGN NAME: NoWINA
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wine Bar
INSPIRATION: NoWINA means novelty. Name comes from Nowogrodzka Street where the wine bar is placed and WINA that means wine. Actually Love was the inspiration for this project. Me and my girlfriend wanted to create unique space for everybody. Stefania felt in love with quality wines and imports 400 labels from whole over the world. I am in love with vintage design and collect XX century furniture, lighting and objects. We decided to combine these passions and write this story in the space of wine bar. Everybody has different taste, and everybody can find his favourite either wine or light installation here.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: NoWINA is the wine bar, wine shop, wine culture gallery and vintage gallery. It is placed in 100 years old tenement house in heart of Warsaw and shows to the public wide and extraordinary collection of cork screws, bottles, wine openers and wine artifacts 250sqm, 2 levels: groundfloor and underground with 17 display windows filled with collection of historic pieces. More than 1000 artefacts show the atmosphere of wine culture. Interior is surrounded by museum quality collectibles concerning wine artifacts, furniture and lighting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There is much space for interaction in this space. Interaction with people, artists, wine lovers. smallna responisble for the creation is concentrated on adding more and more artistic installations every month. Place is changing and certailnly far away from boring spaces. Clients will appreciate wide range of wines, delicious tapas and programme of activities: wine tasting, jazz concerts, discution panel, exhibitions carried out undeground. It was the great goal to prepare full functional basemenet in old building.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Winebar is placed in the heart of Warsaw at Nowogrodzka Street,1km from Palace of Culture that is in the middle of Warsaw. We have started construction in April 2015 and finished in January 2017. In February 2017 we prepared soft opening for 300 guests with great response concerning atmosphere.
The grand opening and wine fastival is planned in Spring 2017 when the building's elevation is going to be fully revitalized. Completing project will be in one year time when the historic building with backyard and new hotel extention is finished.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Unique location chosen for the wine bar had to be revitalized under conservator's eye. We saved all the original parts of the building, historic windows, doors and floor. We added functional and minimalistic architecture to provide the functions: glass floor for display windows, steel stairs shelving to place 1500 wine bottles in the wine shop. Steel & glass wall exposes hundreds of best wine labels between shop and bar. It contains counter tables with vitrines showing customers historic pieces: corkscrews, tastevins, ornamented bottles. Guest are surrounded by artistic light installations that emhpasize core subject: nectar of Gods.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 250sqm, 2 levels: groundfloor and underground, 17 display windows, steel & glass construction containing the smallest wine shop with the biggest collection of wine, 3000 bottles, 5 meters long antique bar, 60 pcs of vintage furniture and lighting plus latest technology solutions like tapas glass display fridge in minimalistic cube

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our idea was focused on serving something new on the market and play well with existing environment. Historic house is demanding like our clients. We have saved unique 100 years old environment, floor tiles, wooden double windows, old patterns on the walls. Architectural intervention is comming directly from the function. There was a need to store thousands of wine bottles, that is why we created steel & glass cube - construction that is a beautiful wine store. Although it is heavy and resistant enough for two tons of wine it is transparent, visualy light and visible from each side.
CHALLENGE: There were few main chalanging activities such as supporting building construction. The floor must be resistant during events for 200 people. We prapared second bar in the basement and it is still comfortable for very tall people. We used old coal slots, finished with glass and prepared display windows with historic wine, magnum bottles and grand openers there. it took half a year to weld steel construction for the stairs to heaven - that is how we call shelving construction and wine shop architecture containing few thousands bottles from floor to the ceiling
