DESIGN NAME: KM05
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Website design
INSPIRATION: Studies show that, “the average person twists and turns in their sleep over 30 times per night”. With this in mind, our story was to create a scrolling action, showing the movement that humans conduct in their sleep.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We linked the passing of time and the movement of a person with the scrolling of the mouse in order to express the person waking up from a pleasant sleep. In addition, each pushing of the button expresses each movement during sleep and the time advances according to the number of buttons pressed. Each image represents the person waking up from a comfortable sleep.
We aim to enhance the understanding of the users of our product by presenting the product in a bold and striking way.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We linked the passing of time and the movement of a person with the scrolling of the mouse in order to express the person waking up from a pleasant sleep. In addition, each pushing of the button expresses each movement during sleep and the time advances according to the number of buttons pressed. Each image represents the person waking up from a comfortable sleep.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: After the creation of a website, initial launch was conducted in Japan. In last July, we visited several home furnishing stores and bedding stores in New York and Los Angeles. During this visit, we asked buyers what they thought of our product. In the end of last August, we have exhibited at the NY Now expo in New York.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Based on the fact of “a human on average turns over 30 times during their sleep” that is not well known in the world, we thought that it would lead to the purchase of the pillow, and decided on that as a concept. We tried to convey the message that this product will enable a person to enjoy a quality sleep by allowing smooth movements during their sleep and wake up feeling better than before. We linked the passing of time and the movement of a person with the scrolling of the mouse. In addition, each pushing of the button expresses each movement during sleep and the time advances according to the number of buttons pressed. Each image represents the person waking up from a comfortable sleep.
In order to express that story, we picked up some models such as gymnasts and dancers, and finally we decided to model a cheerleading player. We verify details to see what form of the body looked like turning over, and shot many times.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: We linked the passing of time and the movement of a person with the scrolling of the mouse in order to express the tossing and turning during sleep. In addition, every time you pressed the button at the center of the page, expresses each movement during sleep and the time advances according to the number of buttons pressed. In order to express the tossing and turning person during sleep flying freely on the screen, we cut out the background of 60 photos and to transparent them, and implemented them above the contents. We prepare a cache in advance, because it used many images. So even in slow processing environment on PC, we devised to make images easy to load. We implemented details to get people who saw the site feel the atmosphere of sleep, such as parallax according with the scrolling of the mouse, waveform of background and easing when moving between sentences.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Sleep deprivation causes an economic loss of 60 billion dollar in the United States and 35 billion dollar in Japan. Pillows usually don’t get much attention as a product, but since humans spend 1/3 of their day asleep, quality of sleep is an important issue that should receive more attention.
CHALLENGE: We linked the passing of time and the movement of a person with the scrolling of the mouse in order to express the tossing and turning during sleep. In addition, every time you pressed the button at the center of the page, expresses each movement during sleep and the time advances according to the number of buttons pressed.
