RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Open SpaceThe staircase to the first floor used to sit in the center of the living room, creating a space with fragmented and obscured light. After being remodeled, fundamentally dark corners and angles were chosen so as to connect the stairs with the first floor entrance. This allows the bedroom to have natural lighting, thus allowing it to have a completely open and unified appearance.
Skylights The bright ray of light spills across the floor through semi-opaque skylights. The lighting rejuvinates previously dark corners, bringing focus on the sculpted lines of the stairs.
Scenery Pointer From the end of the second floor's study to the wooden grates of the terrace, attention is guided towards the distant mountains outside. Yet the area remains obscured so as to maintain privacy.
Connection The ceilings are made up of long wood panels, act as a protective cap over the semi-outdoor patio. This connects the master bedroom's sleeping area, resting area and study, to allow the area to have a large open view of the outdoors. Thus, the creation of multiple wide viewing angles through blending both the indoor and outdoor.
CHALLENGE: Moving the structure of the stairs is the greatest challenge of the project because it involves in a lot of structural reinforcements.
