RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This has been a vacation home for various overseas Chinese business people for many years. It features a T-shaped plan similar to a hotel lobby, as well as a lounge space and two rooms. The concept of "travel is life" has been developed into the overall atmosphere of the home.
A sliding, U-shaped, dark metallic display shelf has been attached to the tawny mirrored wall in the lobby area. When viewed at different angles, it can appear stark and jet black or reflective and light..
The white, shaped ceiling extends from the lobby to the lounge space, giving the impression that the two spaces are, in fact, connected. It also lessens the discomfort from the large structural beam that extends through the two areas.
Where the space turns, the stone walls and mirrored stainless steel screens extends the appearance of the lounge space, expressing a new form of modern luxury.
Within the lounge, a large wine shelf holds wines from all around world and crystal wine glasses. When having your meals, you will see the light spilling in through the metallic screen and flowing over the white curtained walls and red wine cabinet, thus bringing back romantic memories from your travels.
The black and white facades at the end of the lounge symbolizes the different types of rooms found in a hotel.
The entire room has a quiet atmosphere. The white leather arranged along the back wall behind the bed helps provide a comfortable sleep.
The integrated smoked glass and white cabinets display a sense of elegance and ease.
CHALLENGE: The owner is a foreigner, and his usages of the space are different from those of the local people. Therefore, the adequate communication skills become very essential.
