DESIGN NAME: Oversafe
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rescue Bridge
INSPIRATION: I'm Italian i feel this problem, i've lot of migrant friends, listen news about the everyday people died in mediterrean, in 2014: 3419 people died in mediterean, 2015: 3771.2015: 5000. I've a specific design solution for a specific problem. Tranship according to the Red Cross is the dangerous part of rescue, people jump from boat to patrol boat, every migrant need 4 men to help the rescue.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: By analyzing and comparing different video by Italian Coast Guard concerning the transhipment. I've made a critical analysis and i tried to identify the problems and understand what are the needs of those who must tranship from a boat to another. Lot of migrents died because jump and fall down in the water.
I realized that what we really need is a table top that connects the two boats, which takes up little space, it's safe, easy to handle, easy to produce and not expensive.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: During the rescue operation, the patrol boat will have alongside the boat. At this point, simply turn the 90 degrees bridge slide on the other a plan that will slip gradually towards the outside.
The metal beveled tooth at the end of the bridge will serve to constrain the boat patrol boat.
Once you used it is necessary to slide it back until it stops and turn 90 degrees the structure. The operation will involve one person only.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in November 2014 in Torino and finished in 2015 in Reggio Emilia. Was exhibited in IAAD university in January 2017
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Social Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: thermalwelding between structure and boat, welding metal part for structure, ball bearing, assembly rails for structure sliding and punching for the waterflow through the bridge.
Material: anodize aluminum, steel, rope.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2000 mm x 600 mm x 1000 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To solve a real need, the design must be focused on the human being. So i use the Design Thinking method. My research objectives were to find a solution and reduce deaths in the Mediterranean.
I’ve used Participatory design method with Red Cross, Italian Navy, Migrants, Product designer, ecc
I’ve compared the experiences of migrants for to understand the problem The main problem, according to Red Cross is, in the transshipment phase. I've work with all the actors around the project for create te best solution. I've research in boating, navy, rescue fields.
CHALLENGE: Being a very complex field has been difficult to create a design scenario, I did a lot of research. There are people influenced by politics and demagoguery that doesn't have a positive vision
rather a discredit for project of this type. We're in a historic period where many people consider migrants as a problem and not as a resource, I have not found a company that it want to produce, would serve an intervention at the Italian Interior Ministry.
