| DESIGN NAME: Chiara Xite PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cover frame INSPIRATION: ABB is committed to satisfy its customers expectations for design, technology and range of products to cover new market segments. Simplicity, sustainability and care in the forms are the basis of entirely new designed products with innovative finishes, developed and made in Italy. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ABB is introducing a new valuable material in the Italian switch assortment Chiara: anodized aluminum. Natural are the material, the manufacturing process and the colors that also allow a full recyclability. The new palette is more subdued and refined, and the end result provides an ultra-thin texture and clean lines inspired by the world of furnishing and technology. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The sustainability of the entire product lifecycle guided us in the choice of material and production process. The frame is made using a single aluminum sheet, folded and cut in a single step, minimizing the waste. The subsequent anodising is an electrochemical process that creates a protective oxide layer on the treated metal surface, which improves corrosion resistance, surface hardness and resistance to wear and abrasion and gives a valuable and long lasting aesthetic appearance. The dyes are of natural origin and does not provide metal deposit on the material surface: they penetrate the pores of the aluminum oxide generated during the anodising and form durable chemical bonds. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 120 mm x 12 mm x 88 mm. The packaging is also thought to be consistent with the objective of sustainability: it is composed of a single sheet of recyclable cardboard to minimize also in this case the environmental impact.
