| DESIGN NAME: Grid-Electro PRIMARY FUNCTION: Candlestick INSPIRATION: Electric power lines cover the whole Earth and join together the world in one global network. They have the variety of forms and can differ from each other even in the same country, but maybe in several centuries they will totally disappear from our landscapes and our countries will switch to clean and repairing sources of energy. Electric power lines can possibly be turned into museum exhibit, so in this project we want to reinterpret and present them with totally new functions and content. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Electro candlestick is a first item from Grid series, which aims to show the symbol of energy in product design. Since fire was the first discovered type of energy, candlestick became the first item in this series. Product base is a well-known and typical form of modern landscape - electric power lines, which are one of the most important symbols of the age of industrialization. By scaling such a characteristic exterior element, we bring it into interior in a new content - as a candlestick. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Electro is a part of Grid series, so the same form of electric power lines in this series can be transformed into outdoor and indoor models, have different sizes (S, M, L) and different functions - standing lamp, hanger, shelf or flowerpots organizer. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Product base is made from metallic wire, adding different painting colors is also available. Electro hooks, which are are made from metallic bent sheet can be added too. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Measurements (height x width): 66x28(cm). Weight netto: 600 g Weight brutto: 1 kg TAGS: candlestick, product design, electric power line, Ukraine, hochu rayu, electro, grid RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We researched and analyzed different forms of electric power lines, which exist in the world and decided to concentrate on the forms, which are typical for Ukraine. Also, we analyzed engineering and constructional structure to understand how to achieve stable and light form with minimal expenses of materials. CHALLENGE: The main challenge of the project was to use the visual image of electric power lines in the products for home and interior and thus to switch one of the most typical image of destructive industrialization into esthetic object. Moreover, because of using candles instead of electricity for producing light the object became very ecological too. The company was founded in 2007 by two brothers Vitalii and Yurii Kyryliv together with Danuta Kril. The main directions of the company are space design with communication elements and product design. Space design by Hochu rayu presents an optimal solution, which enhances the business effectiveness.
