DESIGN NAME: Juan Ferreras
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Website
INSPIRATION: I've found out that most of my studio's clients used to look for more information about me when we started working together. The website tries to answers who I am without actually showing previous work we've done at the studio (as that'd serve a better purpose on the studio's website). The idea was to exploit the duality concept behind being a developer and a designer at the same time while also aiming to go off-grid instead of a more traditional column-based layout.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is a personal website for Juan Ferreras, a designer and developer from Argentina. The site aims to be more about who I am rather than what projects have I've done in the past. The challenge was to make it interested by itself; without showing previous work on purpose yet leaving room for my skills to express through the content.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: User interaction is based on vertical scrolling with many call to actions to contact me.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The whole project was done within one month in Santa Fe, Argentina.
|
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It's built as an Express/Node.js app for the email sending functionality. It uses Pug, Sass, and uses Grunt to build the local assets. The code is completely open source and available on GitHub.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: A fully responsive design that works well on mobile devices, tablets and desktops.
TAGS: website, portfolio, one page, minimal, clean, sleek
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I've analyzed over 50 personal sites of different successful professionals and influencers in digital design. I purposely discarded the sections showcasing previous work and splitted them onto two groups depending on whether they continued to deliver a good experience or not. I focused then on those who did and tried to extract the core of why they still worked.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to make the site interested and make sure the user stays engaged without actual previous work being showcased.
