DESIGN NAME: Inhabited Island
PRIMARY FUNCTION: City Masterplan
INSPIRATION: Trends of the future let us see what Saint Petersburg may look like, so that the residents of the future city will be satisfied and the economy will grow; there are challenges as well that the city will face - we did our best to include answers to all these questions in our project - intersection of the image of "resident and city of the future". In our project we used advanced experience and know-how, like HafenCity in Hamburg, Confluence district in Lyon, Slussenhofen quarter in Copenhagen.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An exceptional project, a sub-center, undertakes cultural, social and touristic functions and releases the center of the city for historical and architectural landscaping. Moreover, we are creating a new cultural virtual space, which doesn't conflict with the reality. The social environment of the future is in tune with the personality of the residents.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: We would like to offer a project of comprehensive development of the "par excellence" quarter situated at one of the territories in Saint Petersburg beyond 2025. The blueprint suggests implementation of innovation city-planning, architectural, ecological, technological and social practices altogether, which may and will become the features of the new Petersburg city quarter within ten or twenty years. A great emphasis is laid on the "green" component with the area of at least one-third of the total territory.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2016 and finished in November 2016 in St. Petersburg

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our proposal, based on the territory survey, is to bring back the initial natural layout and free water flow, however in a more civilized way in order to create a new unique landscape and attract international sea and river yachting tourism. On the basis of the engineering survey we made a conclusion that it would be possible to lay the canals and build underground levels up to 25 meters deep.
CHALLENGE: We have been designing the "city" of the future, however it is important to emphasize that this project is a personal and experience-based one, and that explains a lot when it comes to our solutions. It is very important for us that this is Saint Petersburg and we tried to keep its spirit.
