| DESIGN NAME: The Broccoli PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: After I asked myself a simple question about form: what if chair's back is no plane but object? I began to think about the necessity of the question, and then it hits me that the answer to it may have much more potential than it seems to influence user activity. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A simple hypothesis considering chair's form inspires an idea to provoke human activity: the Broccoli has no front or back, left or right, it expands the way of interaction between user and chair from two dimension to three dimension and offers much more possibilities of action, and encourages people to use it variously. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: various way of interaction, such as seating, leaning, bending over and so on. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project started in late September 2016 in Beijing and finished in late November 2016 in Beijing. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Sewing fabric and stuffing polypropylene cotton to create the pillow, and it ties to chair's stainless steel tube with cotton thread. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimension of the whole "Broccoli" is 870mmX550mmX700mm. The wood chair part is 830mmX440mmX520mm, the pillow is 600mmX600mmX700mm. Using materials includes pine wood, stainless steel tube, polypropylene cotton and linen. TAGS: chair, pillow, human activity, fabric, Jie Luo RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Use human tests based on comfort, stability and flexibility to choose prototypes and determine how to joint the pillow and chair; conduct real life experiments based on shape and strength to decide the way of tying. CHALLENGE: How to joint the pillow and the chair to create comfortable, strong and flexible using environment while remaining good-looking appearance is the key issue.
