DESIGN NAME: Up-Side-Down
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lamp
INSPIRATION: The Up-Side-Down lamp's shape is influenced by the shape of its light bulb. For the assembly it only uses it's cable and lamp holder.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Up-Side-Down lamp is made out of two pieces of plywood and the light fixture.
It produces ambient light and comes in a variety of colors.
It can be positioned in three different ways, as a table lamp or as a floor lamp and can be hung with the addition of a simple hook.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The lamp is used for ambient lighting, on the floor or on a table.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was designed and produced in Athens, Greece, in November-December 2016, and was exhibited in December in Athens.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Plywood, Cable, E27 Light fixture, led filament lamp.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 190 mm x 190 mm x 340 mm. 4 watt led filament lamp (or 40 watt edison lamp)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: One of the main goals of this project, was the ease of manufacturing, using the fewer parts and tools possible.
CNC milling machine was used to cut the Plywood, Laser engraver for the logo, then sanded and varnished.
5.60 meters of cable and the lamp fixings.
CHALLENGE: To make it sustainable, and keep the cost low as possible, the size of the wooden parts had to be calculated so that there would fit as many as possible on the raw material.
All the "corners" on the object had to be calculated depending on the drill bit used on the CNC.
The cable used (covered with textile) had to be calculated depending on it's diameter, for it's total length and for the final details of the wooden parts.
