DESIGN NAME: Flooro
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Flat Woven Airline Carpeting
INSPIRATION: ANKER flooro. Airline carpeting completely reconceived.
ANKER, the traditional woven carpet specialist from Düren, has developed ANKER flooro, a revolutionary new textile carpet specially designed for the aviation industry.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: What is new? The innovative carpet looks more like a flooring material and weighs considerably less than conventional carpeting (30–70 per cent weight reduction). At the same time it is extremely hard-wearing. In addition, 50 per cent of this new generation of textile flooring is made using recycled Econyl yarns.
The advantages are the economic benefits associated with the need for less material, the carpet’s lower weight, optimised product functionality, lower logistics costs and new design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The innovative carpet looks more like a flooring material and weighs considerably less than conventional carpeting (30–70 per cent weight reduction). At the same time it is extremely hard-wearing. This unique innovation has been made possible by a newly developed special high-tech woven system. In addition, 50 per cent of this new generation of textile flooring is made using recycled Econyl yarns.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: In 2013, ANKER put together a team of experts made up of weaving specialists, weaving machine specialists, designers and sales and marketing people. After several development trials and prototypes, Flooro has been finally finished in 2017.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Many Meetings and discussions with clients and our partners in design offices all over the world bring up this topic that everybody is searching for very light new products for the aviation industry. Saving weight and nearly the same performance in wearing and durability was the main goal which has to be attained. The textile surface and touch should remain and look like conventional carpeting.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge was the transfer from traditional into an unusual and very dense weaving technology. ANKER flooro is now woven using only half as much material. This is made possible by a new high-tech woven system. The process weaves the carpet’s individual threads extremely densely. While a conventional carpet is weaved using around 15 threads per centimetre, more than 34 threads per centimetre are used for ANKER flooro. The density of the material produces a flat and extremely compact textile structure.
