PRIMARY FUNCTION:
sustainable Bamboo pen

INSPIRATION:
Bamboo is a kind of inexhaustible, inexhaustible natural material. Bamboo in China mainly produced in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Sichuan and other places. The country has a long history in the using of bamboo. In recent years, more and more serious ecological destruction and waste, the use of renewable resources to reduce ecological damage and waste is imminent.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The design of a pen use the simple structure of Chinese traditional bamboo clip, which including two same bamboo, connected by a torsion spring, with an ordinary ink. It simplifies the process of replacing the cartridge greatly. brush pot can also be used as a clamp, thus reducing the number of abandoned pen. This is a sustainable design.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
the bamboo pen can be used normally, the bamboo material increases the intimacy with the nature, and when the pen core is replaced, the top of the pen is pressed, Add refill.The pen holder can also be used as a bamboo clip.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in October 2016 in Wuhan and finished in December 2016 in Wuhan.And to get affirmation and support the project team

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Bamboo pen is made of bamboo and torsion spring´╝îBamboo body parts are cut and polished,

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
It is Corrosion resistance, good toughness, biodegradable and easy access to raw materials.The length of the pen is145mm,diameter is 14mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The human resources are limited, at present, our natural environment was destroyed seriously, we should try to use renewable resources to design, even the design of small, plastic is very difficult to be degraded, there are a large number of plastic is used to make pen every year, after being abandoned, causing great pollution to the environment therefore, consider the use of bamboo material instead of plastic, and the fusion characteristics and design of bamboo material itself, sustainable and multifunctional.

CHALLENGE:
In the design process, we studied the toughness and safety of bamboo, we put the bamboo pieces into the boiling water to increase its toughness and corrosion resistance,Then use the machine to process the inside of the bamboo, and then manual processing, because the shape is different, the torsion spring manufacture is a little difficult, we have to make many torsion springs to try, finally chose a suitable. Finally, we made a small modification to the design.

WUT is located in Wuhan, the biggest metropolitan city along the Yangtze River, in central China. Renowned as "the Thoroughfare Leading to Nine Provinces", Wuhan serves as the biggest inland junction of water, road and air transportation and offers an abundance of natural resources both regionally and within the city itself. The city is also famous as one of the foremost center for science, education and culture in Central China. As one of the most important universities in Wuhan, WUT occupies an area of 267 hectares with the total construction area of over 1.52 million square meters. It has numerous campuses spread through the Wuhan metropolitan area.
