INSPIRATION:
Story telling develops childrens imagination. Dreaming of a magical world; fighting with pirates and witches is a very entertaining activity for children. Families, communicating with children through listening and imagining, while also help them to create memories that will always remember. Love based communication with the child affect the nutrition positively and the goal of a communication should be satisfying the child first with love and game, and then with food.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Fairy Tray is a design that strengthens the communication between the parent and the child, enhances the imagination of the child and facilitates the eating process. It consists of a tray and characters connected to the selected theme. It is used by placing the characters to the 4 row shaped holes on the tray. Characters can be positioned to the right left and frontback on these rows. This ease of movement enables to change the place and the importance of a character according to the narrative.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
A pressed plywood tray, a plywood plate cutting out with cnc and a sticker of an illustration comes out of a box. The characters of a fairy tale are removed from the plate and the appropriate sticker is pasted to the plywood piece. The characters of the selected theme are placed in row-shaped holes on the tray and they can be added or subtracted according to the narration. Four rows enable setting the characters according to the level of importance and sense of depth.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in September 2016 in Ankara and finished in January 2017 in Ankara.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Tray and characters will be produced completely from plywood as it is a sustainable material. The tray will be shaped by press mold, while the plate of the characters will be shaped by cnc or laser cut. The illustrations will be printed with non-hazardous paints and pasted to the characters.

Tray: 300mm x 400mm x 25mm, Varying number of characters (approximately 10-12) according to themes.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The most important word that all children are fascinated and focused on is fairy tale. A very active child can be sit into his place and love foods with a fairy tale. Telling a fairy tale is an effective method for parents to spend a quality time with their baby. Baby focusing on images while looking at the illustrations and the listening process improves his cognitive development. Games and fairy tales are commonly used method in childs therapy by providing a communication.

CHALLENGE:
Fairy Tray is a nature friendly product and that can be seemed as its most important feature. Character design appropriate for fairy tales and narrative within the taste of children and families is the second important feature. To resolve of a character needs in about 10 pieces is another challenge of the product. The final challenge is to identify the visual identity of the manufacturer firm on the entire themes and provide a distinguishable visual language.

NAME:
Bülent Ünal

PROFILE:
Bülent Ünal is a graduate of Middle East Technical University, where he received a BA in Industrial Design in between 1989-1993. After his military service, he launched his career in Ankara as a co-founder, general manager and art director of a company specialized in the field of design and advertising in between 1996-2011. In 2011, his expertise on 3D architectural visualization allowed him to include projects in one of the international company ECOU located in Libya for 5 months. In 2013, he received his master degree in the department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Atılım University. After his graduation, he started to the Architecture PhD program of the same University and he has been studied on architectural design. He is an instructor in the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts Design and Architecture at Atılım University since 2013. He is married and a father of one.
