| DESIGN NAME: Meow - The Cat Nutrition for Stray Cats PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cat Nutrition INSPIRATION: In Turkey, there are lots of stray cats in the streets even documentaries have been made about it. When we come across a poor stray cat in the street it is really hard for an animal lover to look another way and go ahead. We care about them so lots of people carry cat food in their bags. But the hardest part is not just feeding, it is mostly about giving them water or to find a container to pour fresh water for them. The idea with Meow is to supply both cat food and clean water in one package. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Meow is a packaging design idea which supplies cat food and water at once, for stray cats. It creates a new range of packaging style by combining food and water in one piece. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When we come across a stray cat in the street we can buy the product from the nearest groceries or we can carry them in our bags or trunk. In the time of need, we simply open the folios and the nutrition unit is ready for cats. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is created in July 2016 in Istanbul. It has won the 1st Prize at Ikmib Packaging Design Awards, Istanbul/Turkey. The product has not been produced yet, it is still conceptual. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The packaging product will be realized with form-fill-seal method. The plastic part will be produced by vacuum forming. After filling the food and water, aluminium foils will be sealed in the same progress. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width :16.5 x Depth :14.5 x Height :4.5 cm TAGS: cat, stray, street, food, water, nutrition, packaging RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As an animal lover I always feed the cats in my neighborhood. Sometimes I do carry cat food in my bag in case of coming across a poor stray cat in the streets.Because there are lots of stray cats in my city.I and my project partner she is such a cat person too, observed the necessity of a specialized product for stray cats. In our city lots of people care about stray cats, they leave cat food in some corners. But after eating the food cats get really thirsty and start to look for a puddle of water but it can be hard to find one, especially in summertime.We searched for a product to be able to supply water and cat food in a practical way but we couldn’t reach for one, so we decided to develop a new design to give people a chance to help these cute animals. CHALLENGE: Our idea was clear, putting the cat food in the same package with water.A packaging design that can be used as a two partitioned container. It was logical to seperately close the partitions for a clear production. The product was created from a necessity and there is no such product in the market. So it was a must for us to create a remarkable form.Our target was to impress animal lovers so we decide to use a Happy Cat icon for both industrial and graphic design forms.
