DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Cradle of Forest

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Postcard

INSPIRATION:
When the leaves of the trees dye the mountains red and yellow, turning the mountains into a soft fluffy carpet, the trees grow and dream of glorious green new lives. Cradle of forest, a thin sheet of seeds is created, maintaining warmth of the fallen leaves. Transformed into a postcard, to be sent to friends all over the world. Water it, and watch a newborn forest emerge. This is a gift from the forest. Then, as the years go by, it will become a gift to the forest.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The warmth of the natural forest will become the medium of communication. Cradle of forest tells the world preserving our environment, nurturing all living creatures is essential. Incorporating natural cycle into our daily lives, establishing a system gentle to the global environment is our goal. You can place cradle of forest and enjoy the touch of nature. From now on, we can relish the joy of nature in our daily lives. And give it back to the Earth when it grows up.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Cradle of forest, a thin sheet of seeds is created, maintaining the warmth of the fallen leaves. Transformed into a postcard, to be sent to friends all over the world. Water it, and watch a newborn forest emerge. You can place this seed sheet anywhere and enjoy the touch of nature. Carry it around and put it down wherever you wont to.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project started in July 2005 Tokyo, Japan and finished in July 2006. Actually, this project will be resale it in holiday of season 2017 in Tokyo. Reply, give it back to the Earth when it grows up. Thank you for sending me Cradle of forest. Lovely leaves sprouted up after simply watering the card. My grandchildren were so happy to come and see it. Now they were taking care of the plant together. It is growing day by day just like our grandchildren, the young tree grows by watching the big tree. I selected a flower version to reply. This is something new with an impressive feeling. Put it in their room and enjoy it.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Leaves that have fallen off the trees are made into powder, which is pressed together to make post cards. These cards need reinforcement to stay together. Splintered coniferous trees are broken down into fiber, and woven into nets to reinforce the cards. There are seeds under the stamps. Water the card, and seeds will sprout. Plant food is put in the coniferous fiber nets that are used to reinforce the cards. This plant food dissolves when the cards are watered, and helps the seeds to sprout.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Leaves that have fallen off the trees are made into powder. Fallen leaves (free gifts from nature). They grind the fallen leaves into a fine powder, which is then mixed with paste and dried, making a strong and durable biodegradable material. Plant seeds. Demensions: 150 (h) x 100 (w) x 3 (d) mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Put the postcard on the tray that is spread out on. The card will quickly become leaf mold and a leaf forest will grow on the tray. Microorganisms in soil degrade organic materials to create nutrients, which are reabsorbed and circulated by plants. Strongly hoping for the recovery and spreading in the area, we can create peaceful atmosphere in cities and the activity will finally lead to global environment conservation. Let us draw a green picture on the Earth and realize a rebirth of green.

CHALLENGE:
I love terms, capacity to dream. I think the difference between recognized real situation and envisioned future creates the capacity to dream. Anyone has various desires, but the dream can not be realized just by having desires. The dream is not fantasy. The reality helps you to have a dream. When you focus on the future while certainly recognizing your real situation, having a dream becomes easier and the dream likely to be realized. I would like to contribute to the society by improving my capacity to dream while recognizing my real situation and focusing on the future in order to make a leap to my dream as well.
