| DESIGN NAME: ScrubYa PRIMARY FUNCTION: Soap Range INSPIRATION: ScrubYa soap range is developed with the idea of encouraging children to wash their hands. Children don't always listen when parents tell them to wash their hands. As liquid soaps and the soap bars are unable to provide an effective scrubbing action, the design combines the function of luffa/ sponge and soap. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ScrubYa is a soap range created for children to connect hand washing with fun and excitement. It combines the function of soap and luffa/sponge with the help of soft silicon bristles hidden within the soap. It is breaking the usual hand washing boredom by effecting the everyday activity in a sensory experience. The theme of animal strips and spots amuses the child and creates excitement in every use. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: ScrubYa soap range has a theme of animal stripes and spots. Each soap in unused condition looks similar to a usual soap. With every use, the soap uncovers interesting pattern of animal stripes or spots pattern. This creates a playful experience of hand washing for children. This characteristic may also be used to enhance the learning process for children. The particular emerging pattern engages a child's imagination along with encourages familiarity with diverse types of animals. The soft silicon bristles not only scrub the dirt away, but also provide a sensory experience. The silicon part can be used as a scrubber once the soap is completely used. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project idea first came up months ago in Delhi and was realized in January 2017 in Haryana. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design is an evolution in the soap world. The "stripes and spots" hidden within the soap is made up of soft silicon bristles, which are gentle on children's skin and durable enough to scrub dirt in every wash. The bristles are flexible and are attached to a main stem located in the centre of the soap. After finishing the soap, the silicon part can be used as a scrubber. Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses from the common cold to more serious infections, such as meningitis, bronchiolitis, the flu, hepatitis A, and most types of infectious diarrhea. It is widely accepted that there is a correct technique to good hand washing that involves scrubbing hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. This may seem quiet a long and dull period of time for children. Thus the solution to this problem demands to be effective as well as interesting. The proposed design caters to the requirement by making the activity engaging, playful and effective. CHALLENGE: The mind of a child is one that's constantly in motion, and most parents will agree that it is difficult to engage child in a particular activity. The design caters to this problem by providing a sensory experience throughout the hand wash activity. With every hand wash, the hidden pattern is revealed maintaining the level of excitement and joy. As a result, the child will gradually start associating hand wash with fun.
