PRIMARY FUNCTION: Drink coffee
INSPIRATION: We apply the form of ancient Chinese paper folded lantern in disposable coffee cup which adopts environmental materials, and directly seal the ground coffee in the cup. This is not only an upgrade of disposable coffee cup in appearance and material, but also an innovation of the usage mode of disposable coffee cup.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: According to materials needed to make coffee, the operation is simpler. The cup is made from environmental and degradable reed pulp raw material. The group coffee will be packed together with the cup, facilitating users to quickly make a cup of coffee. Besides, the cup is folded as a paper lantern, which is easy to carry, reduces transportation cost and garbage storage space, as well as improves the use efficiency of ecological environment and spatial environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Take out one coffee cup and unfold it. Tear open the thin film on the top for making coffee.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Started September 2016 and finished December 2016 at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We utilize reed pulp’s raw material and PE food-grade thin film.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: According to researches, 40% of the disposable cups in market are made of plastic, which will do harm to both human health and environment. We use environmental and original reed pulp raw material to make those cups, which will not cause harm to human health and also reduces environment pollution. The folding shape reduces transportation space cost, makes it easy to carry and reduces garbage storage space after use.
CHALLENGE: We studied on massive folding modes of Chinese ancient lanterns, so as to know how to combine the folding patterns of lanterns with paper cup. Moreover, we did a lot of experiments of the folding methods to integrate materials and usage modes in a harmonious way. Lastly, we pondered over how to perfectly present the appearance and functions.
