DESIGN NAME: Bebe
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plant watering bottle
INSPIRATION: Inspiration for this project comes from my own experience. I am myself an amateur gardener and I grow few herbs for daily use. Recently I made small holiday in Singapore, leaving my plants with a temporary watering arrangement. Unfortunately all my plants died upon my return. This led me to investigate whether people have similar experiences as mine. Many gardeners seem to face the same dilemmas and this motivated me to design a solution.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Bebe smart is an automated plant care system, designed to be an innovative solution to help amateur gardeners forgetting to water their plants. Bebe system works by being filled with water and stuck into the surrounding soil of a potted plant. The unit will automatically dispense water as required for the specific kind of plant that is supposed to be nurtured. Bebe also has smart alert system which timely informs about water level. Plants can be reared healthy with adequate watering.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user need to fill Bebe bottle with water and fix it in the plant pot.
Then user can link bebe to his mobile with specially designed app. This helps Bebe to alert user regarding water level inside it. Also adjust the amount of water to be released to the plant on daily basis. Thus product helps the user to nurture plant healthy with proper watering.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in First week October 2016 in Pune and finished by end second week October 2016 in Pune.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The product is equipped with water level sensor technology and water sensitive florescent decals. The product is made with poly carbonate glass and ABS plastic.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The product dimension are 150 mm x 150 mm x 200 mm. The Product weight is around 200 grams. The design is well suited for tropical and indoor environments. It is equipped with USB charging port for electronic equipment's.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Clinical type research was conducted with special batch of five users, total three sample batches were taken into consideration. The main objective of this research was to develop understanding of plant nurturing practices of people. Based on the questionnaire filled, few users where selected for user scenario study. Selected user where observed and asked to describe their experiences with plant watering. Based on this observations user storyboards where made to gain insight about user usage and behavior pattern. Forgetting to water the plant or inadequate watering led to failure to maintain plant. This was the most valuable insight derived from the research analysis. It help to revise the problem statement "Devising a method to actively monitor plant watering".
CHALLENGE: The challenge in this project was to realize tangible product based on the user feedback and user behavior analysis. The product had to be conceptualized by taken into consideration possible scenarios it may fail.
