DESIGN NAME: Halo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Shaver
INSPIRATION: Most of us leave our grooming devices in common areas. But who is to say someone else won't give your shaver a go? As long of a shot as it might be, Halo gives you the comfort of mind that noone else but you can use it with a fingerprint scanner lock. The interaction is smooth, put your finger on the scanner and your shaver salutes you asking what you wan't for the day: a shave or a trim.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Halo is an electric shaver and trimmer combo that learns your face. It is equipped with gyroscopic positioning sensors on the head of the shaver, and every corner, every hard edge and every inch of your face is being scanned and recorded to adapt the shaver for the best shave. After a few times using it, your shaver practically knows you, just like your barber would. It adjusts its head rotation and blade force accordingly so you don't have to struggle and gives a perfect shaving experience. Halo doubles as a trimmer. A very precise one. If you choose to get a trim instead of a clean shave that morning, you scroll the wheel to the length you want and the head adjusts itself automatically.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: User unlocks the device using the fingerprint scanner. After the confirmation of the user which takes less than a second, user chooses the mode: Clean shave or trim. In the clean shave mode, device already knows the user's face in it's details by having scanned and saved it. In the trim mode, user chooses the precise length on the display and enjoys the rest of the trimming experience.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project has been conceived and finished between August and November 2016 in Milan, Italy.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The lower body of the shaver is black anodized stainless steel and the top part is high quality soft to the touch plastic that gives the shaver a solid feel while not being too heavy and hard on the wrists. The device equipped with inductive charging technology through the charging plate below.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The height of Halo is a total of 128mm while the average section diameter of the tapered body is 42mm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the technology advancing rapidly and our everyday objects getting smarter and smarter, it was about time out grooming devices, shavers that we use everyday get smarter too. Many people care immensely about their looks and wellbeing yet our time is limited to perform everything during a day when we are surrounded by social media, work and technology. This project is the result of an exploration that tries to answer these problems. I believe smart grooming will find its own niche between, wellness, beauty and health.
CHALLENGE: With today's technology in learning devices, Halo has a good chance to be produced for the mass market with moderate costs. The considerations for manufacturing would be the heating and performance of batteries due to inductive charging and keeping the overall weight and size to the minimum.
