DESIGN NAME: Brain Food
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bookmark
INSPIRATION: Brainfood bookmarks were created in an attempt to redefine greek souvenir. The "heavy" philosophical past was the beginning, which led to reading as activity and then into an object, the bookmarks. Therefore, the printed images are mixed with history, taste and images of greek summer. Spoon, fork and Knife in three different themes, greek food(greek salad, octapus, bean soup) greek summer (shell, sky, sea) and architectural motifs in colors.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Brainfood bookmarks approach reading activity as "food for the brain" and with a humoristic way they are shaped in spoon, fork and knife! They are formed in thin transparent plexiglass with an also partly transparent image, so they let you see through them the letters of your page. Depending on your readings, the literature kind, you may choose the proper shape eg. romance -spoon, poetry - fork, scifi- knife etc. Detailed instructions included in their package, in a surrealistic way.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Despite of their obvious use among the book's pages you can use it to stir your cocktail.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2016 and finished in June 2016 in Thessaloniki, Greece. It was exhibited in "It's oh, all so souvenir to me" annual exhibition in Thessaloniki and Athens the summer of 2016.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The semi-transparent sticker over the already transparent plexiglass surface should keep the balance between: color and the ability to see the page of the book through the material. It is printed backwards, so the theme is facing the reader. The proper thickness was also an important issue, in order for the bookmark to be perceived as an object itself.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to transfer the main concept of philosophy into a small object with positive attitude. Deconstructing the meaning and approaching questioning, thinking and learning as food for thought, as food for the brain, the brainfood bookmarks concept appeared.
