DESIGN NAME:
Casper Pillow
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Universally-comfortable Pillow
INSPIRATION:
Until Casper upended the mattress buying experience in 2014, most sleep companies had taken a traditionally boring approach to sleep. Casper created one outrageously comfortable model that sleeps cool and is perfect for everyone by cutting the infinite models with confusing features from the equation and eliminating the need for showrooms. Wanting to further our mission to improve sleep for everyone, we set out to design a single pillow that would impress all sleepers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Casper's pillow designed for every sleeper. After undergoing extensive research, our engineering team found that the average person sleeps with a combination of soft and firm pillows for ultimate comfort. Casper’s unique dual layer design eliminates the need for confusing combinations of pillows. The Casper pillow features an inner core with shorter fibers to provide springiness in any position, and an outer layer with longer fibers for a cushy, luxurious feeling that is forgiving at any angle.

The project started in May 2014 and finished in November 2015. It was designed and assembled in the USA with components from China and Korea.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Standard Size: 18 inches X 26 inches, 2 inch gusset. King Size: 18 inches X 34 inches, 2 inch gusset. Made 100% out of cotton cover, with polyester fabric lining and microfiber fill.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The research process consisted of in-home research, and elaborate prototyping with real world A/B testing. The objective was to create a perfect pillow for all. In order to achieve this, we took existing pillows of all kinds and created custom prototypes by combining the better components from multiple models into unique combinations. After discovering a hand-filled pillow differs greatly from a machine-filled pillow, we created homemade prototypes and sent to members of Casper Labs, our research division with over 15,000 members
CHALLENGE:
As we set out to revolutionize the pillow, we were faced with two main concerns: the first being that everyone has a different method of sleeping and the second being the countless gimmicky models, made up of varying materials and densities. In order to create the perfect pillow suitable for all, Casper embarked on a research process that united extensive in-home research and elaborate prototyping with real world A/B testing in order to provide world class products.
