| DESIGN NAME: Mezzi Master Exhibition PRIMARY FUNCTION: Exhibition INSPIRATION: The designers have adopted the concept of staircase as the theme of this project, where it is used as a metaphor. When someone ascends from one level to another, he/she walks in an upward motion, just like how we acquire knowledge and gain wisdom as we read more and more. Apart from that, the staircase acts as a bridge between different levels, creating a sense of connection between different areas of the building. Interestingly, the theme also echoes the Chinese name of Mezzi Master’s parent company, which means “stepping upwards”. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mezzi Master is a 4 storey cultural centre with a book shop and exhibition space. The theme, “staircase”, is a metaphor for the acquisition of knowledge through reading. In the exhibition area, white prism-shaped stands are specially designed to match with the theme. They can be arranged in 4 ways for different types of exhibition. They can also be used to divide the exhibition space into sections. As they do not entirely block one exhibition area from another, the space is less confined and encourages visitors to move among exhibitions. As the client planned to display a wide range of exhibits in the future, varying from art exhibition, photography, and even new book displays, the design of the exhibition space and stands has to be suitable for all forms of exhibition. This award is described as “The Oscars of Interior Design” by Sunday Times, it is now One Plus’ 12th consecutive year as a finalist of this award. In 2013, One Plus received the Gold Award in the world renowned iF Design Awards in Germany, as the first Hong Kong interior design company that has won this title, and then again won the Gold Award for the second time in 2016. In 2016, One Plus was awarded the Cultural & Creativity Awards by the Hong Kong Association of Cultural Industries, officially recognized as the Hong Kong design company that has received the most international awards in the previous 5 years.
