| DESIGN NAME: Starker Fresh Beer PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bistro INSPIRATION: It is located at the Katong, one of the heritage developments in Singapore. The location is filled with the most authentic food and long historical buildings. In order to blend the authentic beer bistro into the historical building, the designer inspired to research the history of the ancient Europe country to build the space that makes out of the materials that truly used in Europe. Starker bistro is a breakthrough concept that draws attention to the interior in Singapore. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Starker beer philosophy is to serve their fresh brewed beer to the concrete jungle Singapore. As Singapore do not have its own natural resources, is difficult for consumer to think that the bistro will serve authentic beer and food. Our vision is to build a Europe back-alley bistro that let the consumers to enjoy their fresh beer in a stress-free environment. The interior built up uses stoned pavement, rocked houses and natural wood enriches the atmosphere. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It is build next to heritage building. The bistro is infront of the newly built hotel, Hotel Indigo. The bistro serve as the main attraction to the buildings around it. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The heavy stone and rock were mounted onto the special customized heavy duty cladding structure that prevents it from falling. The material is then treated with special coating for easy maintenance. The heavy crafted door and frame is specially built by skilled craftsmen on site. Precise calculation is needed to hold everything together. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Approximate 2000 Sqft. A bistro bar outside hotel TAGS: Starker, Bar, Beer, Bistro RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The idea of bringing ancient Europe houses to Singapore. The relationship between modernist building and ancient structure has been combined with the stone houses of the ancient world inside a metropolis city. Building of the "houses" inside the space created a refreshing concept to the environment. The research gives the designer how the ancient world people enjoy their life even without the modern technology. The design concept and the traditional freshly brewed beer give the people a thought of preservation. CHALLENGE: The hardest part is to create of an ancient building in a modern hotel. Singapore is moving fast forward with technology and modernist concept, the forgotten tradition has been long left behind. The tradition, preservation and culture are what we need. By building a landmark in the heart of the heritage road, it embraces the value we have given up over the years.
