DESIGN NAME: The Artistic Residence
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design
INSPIRATION: The ink and wood artworks, coexist in the same space, represents two artistic conceptions, one of which indicates the dialogues between ink and walls, and the other displays the conversations between utensils and space integrated in the client's life style. In this project, the composed and down-to-earth character, of the client, brings up the specific scholar temperament who looks forward to coming back home, an artistic place for either relaxation or self-cultivation after busy work.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The designer applies the abstract image of "ink" to the rectangular main wall, on which the dry and realistic texture presents the long-standing dark ink. In the meantime, the large abstract ink painting has become the most imperative subject and intrinsic value for the client. The rest of the paintings, in the whole space, came from the client's spontaneous creativity.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The dark hand-scraped wood floor and dining table balance the overall rectangular space. The weathered white oak veneer, furnished on the walls along the corridor and in the bedroom, make this place for residents as if lingering in the forest.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in 2015 in Taichung City.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The rest of the paintings, in the whole space, came from the client's spontaneous creativity. The large light-black ceiling curtain indicates the conception of "rock." When breeze kisses the curtain, the "sky light" goes inside the house. The design of indirect lighting, so-called "sky light" in this project, as Shu Shi put "light on the rock" in his poet.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The images of both distant blue sky and close greenery scenery have become part of the designer's ideas by using plants to obscure the boundary between sky and indoor space, and to create a friendly environment for residence and plants. Such design, furthermore, has implicitly defined the boundary between the public and private area.
CHALLENGE: The design of grass, between the living room and dressing room, has brought a fresh air that connects the outdoor and indoor space. Along the corridor, the implanted phalaenopsis pots create a new style by reflecting those plants with black mirrors, a method presenting multiple appearances. The wall plates with different angles demonstrate the casual but innovative modern craftsmanship that refining the people’s attitude to the philosophy of oriental aesthetics.
