DESIGN NAME: Fireplace
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table
INSPIRATION: I was inspired by the image of setting fire which I put indoor and changed its function. It imitates the role of a fireplace with its lighting and the function of bringing people together. This reflects on the ancient tradition of sitting by the fire. The inside light is supposed to evoke the attributes of fire and the tranquility of a welcoming home. The antiqued and rustic surface generates the feeling of burning and ashes while bringing traits of modernity and functionality to the work.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The inside lighting imitates fire and the warmth of a home. The surface treatment is antiqued both in its colour and material. The circular look is built up of modern, angular geometric shapes contrasting the modern and the traditional design. You can put objects anywhere in/ on the table without blocking the way of the light. The special surface treatment and its roughness enhance the rustic ambiance. The electrical parts are completely hidden.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I would recommend this table for bars, coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment places and homes. Wherever peolple can sit around, read, eat, talk and enjoy themselves. We can actually place the wine bottles we will choose from for a meal in the table. Apart from bottles you can keep several objects in or on it. This is one of its distinctive features. Other special features are: the moodlighting, the technical solutions, the creating process of the design, the rustic, antique surface, and the execution.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2016 and finished in August 2016 in Budapest

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Practicality was important in creating this piece. One can put all kinds of objects, CDs, books, wine bottles, cups in almost all the slots. The table was made of antiqued pine wood. The electric system with the wires, batteries and the switch have all been hidden. Inside the table there is a plug through which the batteries can be charged. The lighting is a warm led lighting which can be turned on by a touch switch and the batteries can operate it for 24 hours.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Size: 860 mm diameter (glass diameter 940 mm) x Height 510 mm
Tempered glass, good quality pinewood, rustic surface, the special surface treatment and its roughness enhance the rustic ambiance, the electrical parts are completely hidden.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During creating this table I researched geometry and we made a lot of attempts until we managed to build this rather complex structure. I started with paper up, paper folding techniques, but it was not enough. Then my constructor’s form erexperiences and 3D softwares helped us to arrive at the final solution. The biggest challenge was to adjust the angles of the cubes precisely both inside and outside considering the radius, diameter, practicality, measures and proportions.
CHALLENGE: The geometry of the table is complex and was difficult to bring to life. It was challenging to find the suitable angles, to plan and carry out the precise joining, to instal and hide the electrical device, the wiring, the battery and the switch. We were also focusing on maximalizing the work’s functionality while respecting the design. The special surface treatment of each piece before the assembling was rather time consuming.
