DESIGN NAME: Brown's Rice Packaging
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Rice Packaging
INSPIRATION: The package design captures the spirit of the aboriginal people of Taitung Province and its local colour: from the people (aboriginal imagery of indigenous farmers), to the land (imagery of natural resources), to the local culture (imagery of the celebrations that follow a bumper harvest). While the souvenir tells the story of Taitung’s aboriginal culture, its innovation is to also perpetuate tradition, so that the rice is not only a gift, but a record of Taitung's story.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Following growth of the tourism industry in Taitung, Taiwan, there was market demand for local companies like Chen Sieh He Rice Factory to develop their own line of souvenirs. Hence we developed packaging with easy-open cans that break from the tradition of packing rice in bags. Since modern-day families are smaller in size and consume less rice at each meal, the cans were developed with the concept of "one meal, one can" in mind. It's more convenient for today's consumers, and easier to share.
