Folding Handled Pan Set
In modern world human population is increasing and houses are getting smaller. Therefore, products that will be used in houses should be space-saving. SpiderPan is designed by taking that need into consideration. Besides, energy usage is another concern in todays world. While cooking huge energy consumed. Cooking tools should be energy efficient in order to help solving energy problems. Increasing heating surfaces might decrease the time for heating.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
SpiderPan is a cooking and frying pan set with foldable handles. There are three pans with different sizes. Small sized pans can be stored in the big one thanks to foldable handles. That is to say, SpiderPan is a space saving cookware set. Additionally, users can fold handles while cooking in order to avoid some hazardous accidents result from long handles of classical cooking pans. Furthermore, these pans are designed with increased base surface which could raise energy efficiency.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Cooking pan handles might be rotated around pivot points which are placed on main body. In holding position, handle parts are merged with each other thanks to magnets placed inside that parts.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
Project started in March 2016 in Ankara and finished in July 2016 in Ankara
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Main body of cooking pan will be cast-iron. By coating ceramic inside of the main body, diverse models can be obtained. Handles are made of laser cut stainless steel and wooden parts. The lids are manufactured by glass molding.

My research process has begun with analyzing alternative folding mechanisms for handles. While accomplishing that task, I was supposed to define the form of design as well. I made some form analysis for maximizing inner volume while making pans to occupy less volume when they're storaged. Furthermore, I've made researchs about heat transfer efficiency. These researchs were concentrated on cookware tools and heatsinks used in several product types.
While designing SpiderPan, to solve standart pans' handle problems in a creative and aesthethical way was the most challenging part of the work. To design nesting cooking pan set was another difficult point in process.
