DESIGN NAME:
CIAK All Day Italian
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Restaurant
INSPIRATION:
The design is inspired by and resonates Italian - Dolce Vita. It features Italian home’s natural feeling and motifs of their brand including classic Italian movie scenes, nostalgic posters and video player. The comfortable setting with brick, natural wood and tiles hints at the picturesque streets of Italian towns, while vintage posters and projections recall the golden years of Italian cinema.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The trattoria is a restoration of an Italian town. The country house’s walls and windows, red brick façade walls are just like a plaza. Together with the parquet tiles, they all recall a feeling of an exotic Italian town.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Near the entrance of the restaurant is a display of grocery products. This follows the old philosophy of Italian grocery where high quality products are open for customers’ selection.
On the back of the restaurant, an overhead projector is set to play videos of old movies on a screen from time to time. Sitting on the sofa, visitors can capture a feeling of watching movies in an old theatre and recollect memories of the dazzling Hollywood of the 30s and 40s.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in Feb 2016 and finished in June 2016 in Hong Kong.
The Restaurant is located at Shop# 265, 2/F Cityplaza, 18 Taikoo Shing Road, Taikoo Shing, Hong Kong.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The centerpiece of the restaurant is a wooden decoration imitating natural tree branches, connected to a radiating aluminum ceiling in wood surface finishing, while the walls are parqueted with red bricks of different thickness.

The site area is 369 sq.m²

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The design is based on CIAK All Day Italian business philosophy. It hopes to present a mood and an attitude to life to their guests. To restore an Italian countryside culture, tell Dolce Vita - sweet life philosophy, and restore a mood of the 30s - 40s classic Italian movies. We research mainly on the internet.
CHALLENGE:
Italian - Dolce Vita - sweet life, is a relatively abstract feeling. It is an attitude to life and guides us how to enjoy life. What we expect after a day’s hard work is nothing more than enjoying a meal at a leisurely and comfortable restaurant. This is also what we wish to offer to our family.

NAME:
CIAK ALL DAY ITALIAN
PROFILE:
CIAK, getting it’s name from filmmaking. It is the onomatopoeic sound of a clapper board closing as the director shouts action. Being an Italian grocery and restaurant, it inherits a business philosophy from Old Italian grocery shop where customers are offered high quality food on spot or as takeaway. The restaurant is under the leadership of Chef Valentino Ugolini and consultancy of Umberto Bombana, both are three-star Michelin chefs.

I am absolutely astounded by "CIAK All Day Italian" restaurant! The Interior Space and Exhibition Design is simply magnificent and it is clear that a lot of effort was put into creating such a unique atmosphere. The attention to detail is visible in every corner and the overall concept is truly remarkable. I am truly inspired by this work and feel that it deserves to be recognized for its artistry. Kudos to Monique Lee of Mas Studio Ltd for this incredible achievement!

I am absolutely enthralled with the award-winning design of "CIAK All Day Italian"! The way it captures the essence of Italian culture, specifically the Dolce Vita, is stunning. The natural feeling it exudes by using materials like brick, natural wood and tiles is incredibly calming, while the vintage posters and projections bring an air of nostalgia and harken back to the golden years of Italian cinema. This award-winning restaurant brings the atmosphere of a classic Italian town to life with its trattoria-style restoration.
