PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design was developed with a four step process. 1. Strategic Assessment, developed understanding of goals, operational and developmental issues. 2. Concept Exploration, involved brand and sensory elements. It established positioning, attitude and personality in visual terms. 3. Preliminary Design, created the actual design and framework to communicate the brand to customers. 4. Design Development, finalized the environment, including an in depth approach to execution and implementation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We used qualitative research to understand demographics, shopper behaviors, store operations, and store profitability goals. We visited the site, interviewed shoppers and analyzed case studies and market research provided by the client. We found demand for high end prepared foods and on-site dining in a boutique grocery environment. We also found that boutique retail environments are trending and earn repeat customers as a result of the shift toward convenience without sacrificing quality.
CHALLENGE: Because this store opened in a historical building, the most challenging aspects of the design were adapting elements of a grocery store to meet historical society demands; adapting a historic Ford dealership into a place for preparing and selling foods; and rehabilitating materials both on the interior and exterior to maintain the buildings historic charm.
