| DESIGN NAME: Tre PRIMARY FUNCTION: Modular Concrete Tile Series INSPIRATION: Tre’s magnetic visual appeal is the result of precisely rendered angular contours that harness the beauty of symmetry, as well as the dynamic interplay of depth, light and shadow, and the energetic movement of geometric flow. Tre enables one to envision and create endless pattern combinations from the simplest minimalist applications to the most elaborate kaleidoscopic masterpieces. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tre’s design concept is an invitation to imagine, play and create. Each tile in the series works as well independently as it does in multi-tile combinations, and maintains its signature visual appeal even in randomised configurations. With 4 distinct surfaces, 2 levels of thickness, 9 compatible Trelements, 24 colours and different finishes, Tre offers designers and architects the ability to create intriguing and visually stunning, truly unique surfaces. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Tre interaction begins with the possibility to design and create a unique constellation of the Trelements on the desired wall. The possibilities are endless, the creations unique. 4 distinct surfaces, 2 levels of thickness, 9 compatible Trelements in 24 colours: this is what makes this design endlessly interesting. It is up to the architect or interior designer to find the wished constellation of shapes, colours and depths, to create something unique and visually stunning in the architectural space. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Tre was launched in May 2016 during the Clerkenwell Design week in London. It is since a core collection design of KAZA Concrete. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Tre is manufactured by KAZA Concrete: an innovation focused fine-concrete manufacture company. Their unique moulding and manufacturing technology makes possible the production of precise, smooth 3D shaped fine-concrete tiles. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 213 × 184 mm for the tiles, two possible heights, see technical sheet for details. TAGS: concrete, tile, surface, modular, faceted, triangular, wall, 3D, pattern, endless RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design was originally conceived and created by Next Ship Navigator Levi Fignar, as an architectural surface installation for the London Design Festival. Inspired by the 20th anniversary 100% Design topic, the kaleidoscope, Fignar created a mesmerising wall of small concrete mosaic triangles. Since then, Next Ship has developed and expanded the Tre concept for the design and architecture world and made it a modular fine-concrete tile system. CHALLENGE: The main issue was to implement the visuality to a concrete tile design that can be manufactured and produced. After its success as a mosaic wall, the elements had to be changed in size and diversity to fit the needs of a truly exceptional fine concrete wall tile series. It had to be able to fit to every possible wall, leaving the possibility to designers and architects to make it their own surface designing tool.
