The inspiration for this product comes from a large quantity of surveys and personal interviews with Chinese doctors and patients. Today the Asian market is ready to accept a product that looks more like a perfume or a cosmetic appliance rather than in the typical all-white medical plastic devices. The Company also will have a diagonal way to sell the products through a distribution channel never used before for this kind of appliances.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This Digital non-contact thermometer Visiomed is part of a group of products that are intended to facilitate the work of doctors even in the remote parts of China.
Nexmed strongly wanted the first product on the market that is not designed as a 'gun' but more as a beauty care product. It has been thought for the Chinese market which has specific needs and tradition in terms of design for medical devices.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The product is operated from a button on the top, it need to be used at 5 - 10 cm from the head and a recessed Led screen will report the precise body temperature in seconds. Grouped with the Oximeter and the Blood Pressure Monitor, the non-contact Thermometer represents one of the most critical instruments for doctors to understand the condition of the patient even before he reaches the hospital. It transmits the data via Bluetooth to any Smartphone with App and then via Internet to the hospital through the Bewell Connect cloud, it comes with a micro Usb charger and dock station.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project is part of a family of three for Visiomed: Thermometer, Oximeter, and Blood Pressure Monitor. It has been developed during one year in Shenzhen where Visiomed has its offices and production unit.

The marketing research has been done through a series of interviews and focus groups with a panel of experts. The old products designed for the company where put in the hands of dozens of people and their behaviour recorded in video. The research underlined the main problem of the 'gun' effect of the product together with some readability issues related to the readability of the data on the screen and user interface. The market research also pointed out the preferred distribution channel for Visiomed that will be kept secret until the official launch of the group of products
The hardest part of this design was declining it to the Chinese market where the 'gun' shaped products that are nowadays on the market failed for the negative perception of the users.
