DESIGN NAME: Pristine Moon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Open collar
INSPIRATION: I was tempted by the Hmong's imagination of Mother Nature and the urges to create fashionable jewelries for all women of the world. The appearance of nature under Hmong's eyes is very unique. My inspiration came from the Hmong of Vietnam where everything lies within their jewelries are all symbols of nature. In my design, I combined the shape of the moon and the carved details from the Hmong's jewelries and clothes to praise the beauty of an ancient God in their tales which is the moon itself.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Pristine Moon is a necklace with round pendant inspired by the crescent moon with a simple open collar. This sterling silver necklace praises the beauty of a woman's neck and carries a mystery of an ancient symbol of the Earth. Pristine Moon combines modern and traditional scent so it is suitable for several kinds of women's clothes such as casual and formal and also goes really nice with bohemian style. So it has good function and great appearance for all women in the world.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a simple necklace with open collar so it can preserve the modern style of jewelry and very easy to put on the neck. All the attention focuses on the pendant where the meaning of the product lies. So it can be cleared that my intent was to praise the beauty of a woman by the jewelry she wears and also carries the history behind it. The exciting part about this necklace not only about the meaning but also how it is going to affect the styles. Pristine Moon can be wore with casual clothes because of its simplicity of material; or it can be very suitable for specific style like bohemian and also women's suits with an open V-neckline. And plus, this piece of jewelry can go well with formal dresses. The shine effect of silver will be a compliment along with a strapless long dress or a mermaid dress, even with monochrome dress or a beaded dress. What I am trying to show here is the jewelry we use does not have to be sparkle with diamonds and gemstones. It can be so true and pristine like the name itself bringing us the idea of the ancient beauty through the silver light.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I began researching the ethnic jewelries in the beginning of 2015 for my final project in the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts. My final project was about the symbols of Khmer culture in modern jewelries along with designing and performing the jewelries with modern Khmer dresses. Gathering the information for the project also meant that I had to research the culture and jewelries types of Vietnamese ethnic people and also Asian's which is my favorite style that I have been working on with my hand-made shop during that time so I had been using all kinds of resources to observe the knowledge of this field. I traveled to Mai Châu and Sa Pa to study the life style of ethnic people and the details on their clothes and accessories they use everyday. I visited the Vietnam Women's Museum and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and National Museum of Vietnamese History to learn more with real jewelries and clothes of ethnic women and man and also the history behind them. I also searched on online resources like Pinterest and some jewelry brand to catch up the trend nowadays, combined with the knowledge I gathered in the jewelry training course in the University for my ideas. So I had started to form the urges to make this kind of specific jewelry since then. I carry a notebook and pencil everyday to sketch my idea whenever it flows. This habit led to the most important thing in my life is my own jewelry brand I started early this year for casual occasion mostly but still has the scent of ethnic jewelry. I desire to bring the beauty of ethnic culture to all the people that it is not only for the ones who dare to dress differently but for those who like it more simple and easy to put on. And people actually like it very much because of its function. They can wear with any clothes in any occasion and in any time they want. That is exactly the aim I am after.
CHALLENGE: Hmong has inspired so many artists and designers all over the world since the first time its culture reached people's knowledge. Therefor, to create a new design like no others have done before, I did have to throw away many sketches to finally come up with this design. My design has to be simple and wearable, as my aim at first, and also unique and has the ability to speak Hmong's culture through its curves and shapes. Pristine Moon has gone through several times of reshaping before coming out as a piece of jewelry that has the meaning of history, the past and the present and also the future where all we do is preserve the legacy of our lifetime through the beauty of nature and mankind. And so the creative activity is the toughest part of being a designer but it helps me define myself in a million versions of me and before a world of evolution that changes every single minute. It completes me.
