DESIGN NAME: AirComfort
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Sensor
INSPIRATION: The project began at one of the usual hot and humid Hong Kong summer afternoons when the heat and sticky feeling in the office were so unbearable that we fought over for the accuracy of the weather report. Whereas the temperature and humidity figures are usually measuring the outdoor area and at limited locations, we decide to develop a portable device that is affordable, durable and collect data throughout the time.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: AirComfort is a Bluetooth wireless connected device that measures temperature and humidity in surrounding area. Inspired from traditional thermometer with a stylish colour combinations, AirComfort is designed as a handy product with a down-to-earth shape for users. AirComfort works with an alarm function that can be set by the user. It's the ideal ioT device for environments that need extra care regarding temperature and humidity, such as wine cellar, baby room and even server room.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: AirComfort is a wireless product designed with concepts of affordability, simplicity, durability and user-friendly. We, therefore, use a small and thin battery together with Bluetooth low energy technology on AirComfort. This combination not only ensures the size of AirComfort to be as small as possible, it also keeps users from changing battery weekly for AirComfort, as one small battery can work for a whole year.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2014 and finished in April 2016 in Hong Kong

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Using Bluetooth low energy 4.0,powered by a small button cell battery,AirComfort is a lightweight device with a powerful storage of up to 100 days of data.With just one device and one app,the user is able to check both temperature and humidity measurement on his/her own mobile phone.Each mobile app is able to connect multiple AirComfort identifiable by different icons. The app itself is simple and easy to read and is designed in such way to allow not only recording but also tracking information with graphics and figures.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Such as baby sleeping. There are over 50 million of infants and toddlers in US and Western European alone. And parents are willing to spend up to USD12,000 annually for baby caring products. With AirComfort, parents are now having a simple and stress-free way to track and trace back the ideal temperature and humidity for their own babies.
Using the data storing in AirComfort which put in the baby's room, parents can check the perfect figures for their children to sleep tight, and share it with other parents on the social community platform.
CHALLENGE: The existing market has numerous of attractive and informative products though with high retail prices. Taking these factors into consideration, we then think about the possibility to develop an affordable consumer device that enables user to collect information for life improvement. The biggest challenge of this project is to make the design as small as possible with affordable prices, and also keep it can work for a whole year from changing battery weekly. So finally we decide to use the Bluetooth low energy technology with a small and thin battery on Aircomfort for you to monitor your surrounding area.
