DESIGN NAME: Green Pompeii
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Console
INSPIRATION: Green Pompeii is nature's revenge on urban sprawl. The resin part symbolizes the green flood or green pompeii, while the vertical units represent the city being flooded by a green eruption.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A limited edition (to 8) console, each unique, numbered and signed. From the concept of nature's revenge on urban sprawl, this console is a conceptual and experimental approach on what nature's revenge might be due to not being taken care of.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This product is a piece of furniture inspired by a concept, which functions as a console. We hope this piece belongs to the grey zone between Art and Design.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2015, it was originally commissioned by Smo Gallery's collective exhibition, under the theme of "Revenge". The project was also displayed in Design Days Dubai in 2016, which attracted the crowd and was displayed in several reputable magazines. The project is a limited edition of 8 consoles.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This design went through a challenging process, a lot of trial and error and went through much letdowns before it worked out. A very specific type of resin had to be used in order to be able to cast over 80 liters of resin in one shot without breaking. Top in crystal clear glass, base in oxidized brass, concrete, polished stainless steel, gun metal, patinated silver leaf, and crystal epoxy resin.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Many small mock ups were done to test the resin quality, resistance and compatibility. The challenge was much bigger when it came to the real scale prototype execution.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to find a concept related to our hometown over and bad construction problems.
