DESIGN NAME: Hong Kong Angelman Syndrome Foundation
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Information Website
INSPIRATION: The children and parents of sufferers are the inspiration for the colourful design theme and bold iconography. We wanted the website to give everyone a little positive energy – and cheer them on.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Hong Kong Angelman Syndrome Foundation is a charity organisation for Angelman patients. Our website is designed to be a positive and uplifting online knowledge resource to assist these individuals and families overcome the difficulties of living with Angelman Syndrome - a complex genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system. The responsive design ensures that visitors have access to information on a diverse range of mobile devices as well as desktop computers.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: While scrolling, the page sub navigation menu follows the user and provides access to different sections of the page quickly and easily. This is substituted to an accordion-style navigation system when on the limited spaces of handheld mobile devices.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project kicked off at the beginning of July 2015 and released in 3 phases in Hong Kong. Phase 1 soft-launched in August 2015 for HKASF's newspaper debut on Apple Daily. Phase 2 updates with support information and media publications September 2015 for HKASF's TV segment on TVB. Finally, phase 3 completed in November 2015 with educational materials, events and a content management system.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We were influenced by how sufferers of Angelman Syndrome would be attracted to water and the sound/texture of plastic bags - how it made them giggle and laugh. It was something we started to explore and led us to the the use of bright colours and bold icons in our final product.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to create a community and knowledge resource for sufferers and families struggling to overcome Angelman Syndrome. Our goal was to make our site eye catching, easy to use, and spread a positive image about Angelman Syndrome and HKASF.
