DESIGN NAME: The Hive
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: The Hive was inspired by the aesthetic look of a honeycomb. Hexagonal vintage-style floor tiles lead the way in from the main door, bringing our view towards the spacious living room and open concept kitchen which is covered with wood lookalike floor tiles. Placement of the sofa together with the shape of platform came from the geometry of hexagon. This create personal space around the house for owns retreat.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Creating space is the main objective of the design. The activity room is closed off with tempered glass, so that the living room does not look too confined. Kitchen walls are hack to create an open concept idea, complete with a movable island countertop that can be wheeled around for more space. Chipboard material that clad the walls around with, effectively concealing the door and have become a giant pin-up board for displaying pictures.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hexagonal floor tiles laid irregularly merging with wood lookalike floor tiles in the living room while the bedroom floor is laid in a herringbone pattern with 2 different color tones. White craft brick walls make the space feel spacious and airy. Aluminum frame glass panel at the activity room. Chipboard material that clad the walls around with, effectively concealing the door. Wardrobe with bidding details to resemble stacked crates.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The idea was to create a spacious environment with eclectic elements. Making use of geometry shape to break away the traditional placement of furniture, it gives a different approach and stand up from the norm. With a mixture of materials in each corner of the house, it balance out the whole interior, enhancing the concept even further.
CHALLENGE: The right material and colors have to be cleverly selected to achieve the lively and eclectic concept. The laying method of hexagon tiles leads our eye view towards the spacious living room. Walls have to be hacked to an open concept kitchen and aluminum glass frame replacing solid partition to create spaces in the house.
